Minimalism pioneer Steve Reich's list of innovations is as long as his list of awards and recognitions- which include GRAMMYs® and Pulitzers. The Desert Music is perhaps Reich’s most ambitious orchestral score to date – a setting for chorus and large orchestra, of texts by the American poet William Carlos Williams. It is a highly symphonic piece which is inspired by Reich’s own travels in California’s Mojave Desert, the White Sands – and perhaps in particular the Alamogordo in New Mexico.
