Sancho Pança, gourverneur dans l'ile de Barataria is a comic opera covering Sancho Pança's adventures as governor of a fictitious island on which a succession of characters plot to cure him of his delusions of grandeur. Composer François-André Danican Philidor had been a court musician at Versailles and was an internationally recognized chess master. Opera Lafayette has become a leading force in Baroque opera revivals in the U.S.
