May 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Isaac Manuel Francisco Albéniz i Pascual. Born in Camprodon, a town in Catalonia, Spain, Albéniz was a child prodigy who at the age seven passed the entrance examination for piano at the Paris Conservatoire. Albéniz is best known for his many piano works, many of which have been transcribed for guitar. Albéniz died on 18 May 1909 at age 48.
