Bang on a Can founders Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julie Wolfe recognized at the outset that their new and open approach to presenting required a new generation of virtuosic and passionate performers. They had to be able to cross musical boundaries, and be at home with many styles and technologies. And they had to be amazing.
Now more than thirty years on, they are still performing, and still amazing. Bang on a Can All-Stars will appear at New York City's Carnegie Hall April 30, 2011.
Here we offer a survey of Bang on a Can recordings on the Cantaloupe label. The featured release is a live performance of Brian Eno's seminal Music for Airports, a revolutionary minimalistic work - the first in Eno's ambient series.
