Spanish born composer Leonardo Balada's idiosyncratic compositions blend ethnic music with elements of the avant-garde. Balada's large catalog contains chamber music and symphonic compositions, cantatas, two chamber and four full length operas. Naxos' latest Balada release is of Caprichos, compositions in the form of suites. Capricho No. 2 features Latin dances, No. 3 pays tribute to fighters in the Spanish Civil War, and No. 4 is based on Jazz idioms.
