Naxos founder and Chairman Klaus Heymann started Naxos nearly 25 years ago as a way to pursue his passion for Classical Music and share it with the world.  Here he gives his thoughts on some key Naxos releases for June 2011:

8.572258
MOZART, W.A.: Divertimento in E flat major, K. 563 (Kraggerud, Tomter, C. Richter)

'This is one of Mozart’s greatest works performed here by three solo-caliber artists, Norwegians Henning Kraggerud and Lars Anders Tomter and German cellist Christoph Richter. There’s no better performance available today and this recording should be in the collection of all Mozart and chamber music lovers.'
8.572332
RESPIGHI, O.: Violin Concerto in A major / Aria / Suite for Strings (Marzadori, Chamber Orchesta of New York, Ottorino Respighi, Di Vittorio)

'I have always had a soft spot for Respighi’s 1921 Concerto Gregoriano which my wife Takako Nishizaki recorded for our Marco Polo label in the 1980s – I still cannot understand why it is not performed more frequently – great memorable tunes with a fiendishly difficult ending. The A major Concerto, composed in 1903, is on a smaller scale but is genuine Respighi from the first bar. It is coupled with the Suite for Strings and the composer’s Rossiniana, a delightful reworking of some of Rossini’s piano pieces. This is an hour’s worth of most enjoyable music.'

PIATTI, A.: 12 Caprices / Caprice on a Theme from Pacini's Niobe (Soo Bae)

'These are the cello equivalent of the Paganini caprices for solo violin. Fabulous playing by the young Korean cellist, Soo Bae, winner of the 2005 Concert Artists Guild International Competition.'
8.572604
RODE, P.: 12 Etudes for Violin Solo / Duos for 2 Violins (N. and R. Koeckert)

'If you’re a fan of the 24 Paganini Caprices for violin solo you will enjoy these 12 Etudes by Rode, one of the foremost composers of the French violin school. They are probably as demanding technically as the Paganini pieces. The Duos are more lyrical and melodic. The soloist, Nicolas Koeckert is joined in the Duos by his father, Rudolf Koeckert, the leader of the famous Koeckert String Quartet. Great stuff for violin fans!'
8.572586
SCARLATTI, D.: Keyboard Sonatas (Complete), Vol. 14 (Duanduan Hao)

'This volume is performed by Duanduan Hao, winner of the 2009 Shanghai International Piano Competition, a young pianist of great promise. I was in Shanghai for the finals and was enormously impressed by the young man. He plays the sonatas with tremendous clarity and great feeling for the style. This is one of the finest volumes in our series. While originally written for the harpsichord I very much prefer the sonatas played on the piano.'
8.572736
HUMMEL, J.N.: Hummel at the Opera (Inui)

'Most people know Hummel as a composer for the piano. But he also composed operas himself. This recording combines variations, fantasies and potpourris on various operas, including his own. Most of these have never been recorded before -- they're great fun, not to be missed by piano lovers. The pianist is Madoka Inui who already recorded another CD with piano works by the composer for Naxos.'
