International Philharmonic Orchestra

Founded in 1996 by the principal conductor Horst-Hans Bäcker, The Internationale Philharmonie is a youth orchestra. With over a hundred musicians representing over twenty countries, it contains graduates of the Hochschulen in Hanover, Hamburg, Detmold, Lübeck, Wuppertal and Berlin, as well as other European music conservatories. The orchestra’s repertoire ranges from the classical, to contemporary, to crossover, and from chamber music to the great symphonies. Youth work is a fundamental part of the orchestra’s ethos, and there are diverse exam and concert opportunities available for young musicians as well as experience programmes with German Hochschulen. In 1997 the new principal conductor Stefanos Tsialis brought a new generation of players to the orchestra. Concerts with well-known soloists, conductors and ensembles coupled with performances with the violinist Igor Oistrakh, the organist Matthias Eisenberg, and the Leipziger Thomanerchor, in addition to guest performances in Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Halle, and Magdeburg, have all confirmed the rise of the Kammerphilharmonie in recent years.
