This is the beginning of a project in the making for more than 10 years. There will be altogether four or five volumes. Each volume will offer a mixture of well-known and rarely heard overtures.

The overtures are performed by the Prague Sinfonia Orchestra and their conductor Christian Benda, the team that has received tremendous critical acclaim for their recordings of the complete Schubert overtures. This is a winner.

This release comes hard on the heels of our tremendously successful Delius Mass of Life. It is the Delius American Album.

Appalachia is a set of variations on a slave song which Delius heard when teaching the violin in Virginia. Sea Drift is a song of love and death based on the text of Walt Whitman. There is no other coupling of these two works and the performances by the Florida Orchestra under Stefan Sanderling are outstanding.

We already have several versions of The Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto in our catalogue. One of the two composers, Chen Gang made an arrangement for piano and orchestra which was subsequently adapted and edited by Chen Jie, the soloist in our new recording. It is coupled here with the most famous Chinese piano concerto, The Yellow River. Our recording therefore combines the two most famous Chinese concertos. The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Carolyn Kuan, a protégé of Marin Alsop. Not to be missed.

This is the first recording of a series devoted to the most important Chinese contemporary composers. Tan Dun is by far the best known of these. Mr. Tan has a high profile in a variety of media. His music has been played throughout the world by leading orchestras and opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera [The First Emperor]. He composed the soundtrack for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Concerto for Orchestra describes the geographical, musical and spiritual journeys of Marco Polo. Orchestral Theatre centers on memories of rituals from the composer's childhood. The composer himself conducted the recording which features the Hong Kong Philharmonic in stunning sound produced by Tim Handley.
