Dear ClassicsOnline customer,

Naxos Founder and Chairman Klaus Heymann shares his thoughts on a few key releases from the Naxos August 2012 roster.

Choral Music - Music from the Eton Choirbook (Tonus Peregrinus, Pitts)
8.572840  Music from the Eton Choirbook

This has been one of my pet projects for early music for many years. It finally has come to fruition with this wonderful recording by Tonus Peregrinus and Antony Pitts. The Eton Choirbook is one of the greatest surviving collection of pre-reformation English music. Our recording includes the earliest polyphonic Passion by a named composer; two heartrending motets; and two thrilling settings of the Magnificat. Tonus Peregrinus has been widely acclaimed for its recordings of Dunstable, Gibbons and Arvo Pärt. A must for collectors of Renaissance English choral music!

ROSSINI, G.: Occasione fa il ladro (L') (Martirosyan, Antonelou, Ruggeri, Utzeri, Cortes, Wurttemberg Philharmonic, Fogliani)
8.660314-15  Rosinni: L'occasione fa il ladro

This is the next installment of our project to record and release all the operas of Rossini in conjunction with the Rossini in Wildbad Festival. There are very few recordings of this youthfully energetic and stunningly entertaining comic opera of Rossini and this live recording will be a top choice for many collectors.

The performance is conducted by Antonino Fogliani who has already contributed acclaimed recordings of Otello and Ciro in Babilonia to the Naxos project.

Also Available:
Rossini: Ciro in Babilonia  8.660203-04
Rossini: Otello  8.660275-76

WOLF-FERRARI, E.: Wind Concertinos (Tenaglia, Moriconi, Ciabocchi, Rome Symphony, La Vecchia)
8.572921  Wolf-Ferrari: Wind Concertinos

Mainly known as an operatic composer, Wolf-Ferrari wrote a number of expressive and lyrical orchestral works. The three delightfully melodic wind concertos on this disc represent his complete wind concerto output. This is another volume in our project to introduce the world to Italian composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This is a valuable addition to the catalogue and a must for collectors of oboe, cor anglais and bassoon repertoire.

TAYLOR, D.: Through the Looking Glass / GRIFFES, C.T.: Poem / The Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan (Goff, Seattle Symphony, Schwarz)
8.559724  Taylor: Through the Looking Glass • Griffes: Poem / The Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan

These are the most popular compositions of American 20th century composers using a late-romantic musical language. Even in the United States, these composers' works are rarely performed. So here's an opportunity to hear them in first-class performances. Not to be missed if you're into late Romantic and early 20th century music.

We hope you will enjoy these selections and more from Naxos Records and ClassicsOnline.
