Saint-Saens: Symphony No. 3 / Widor: Organ Symphony No. 6

Saint-Saens' Organ Symphony presents challenges both in performance and recording. Timing between the orchestra and the organist needs to be just right, a suitable venue must be found, and capturing the bombast while preserving the subtle detail presents tremendous challenges to the recording engineer. Hear all the problems solved wonderfully in this album, one that's perfect for testing your speakers.

Oxford New College Choir: Agnus dei, Vols. 1 and 2

These choral masterpieces are all beautifully performed by the Oxford New College Choir under the direction of Edward Higginbottom. Repertoire is over a broad range, from early music to the very recent past, all best-loved choral classics. The recording is remarkably clear, with gorgeous ambience. This is music to soothe anyone's troubles away.

Edgar Meyer and Chris Thile

Chris Thile is a young musician of extraordinary gifts who first came to the public's attention as a member of Nickel Creek, a bluegrass/ new music trio. Here is his duo, formed with bassist Edgar Meyer, whom Chris admires as 'my hero'. The admiration is mutual as is the musicianship. Chris Thile was awarded a MacArthur fellowship (aka 'genius' grant) in 2012 and we look forward to many years of exciting music to come.

Our Featured Label of the Week: Tactus -- Take 20% off the entire label this weekend only. Offer good through November 4.

Tactus
Tactus was founded in 1986 by the late Mr. Serafino Rossi (1927–2009), dedicated to music’s Italian heritage and not least the discovery of forgotten Renaissance and Baroque composers who made important contributions to it.
