Schubert, F.: Mass No. 5 / Magnificat in C Major (Hennig)
Vivaldi, A.: Concertos - RV 183, 189, 202, 271, 277, 286 (Concertos for the Emperor) (Manze, English Concert)
Haydn / Hummel / Neruda: Trumpet Concertos
Ars Musici: AM12112
Schubert, F.: Mass No. 5 / Magnificat in C Major (Hennig)

Schubert's Mass No. 5 in A minor is the work of a mature composer, confident in his technical capabilities, and demonstrating an advanced grasp of harmony. Schubert considered it the finest of his Masses, writing to a friend that he considered dedicating it to the Emperor 'as it has turned out well.' There is no record of it being performed in Schubert's lifetime.

Vivaldi, A.: Concertos - RV 183, 189, 202, 271, 277, 286 (Concertos for the Emperor) (Manze, English Concert)

If you have heard only the best-known Vivaldi works, this recording may challenge your perception of his music. Much of the credit is certainly due to the spectacular performance by Andrew Manze and The English Concert, but these little-known, reconstructed concertos have more tension and bombast than you might expect.

Haydn / Hummel / Neruda: Trumpet Concertos

This album collects the best known early compositions for the valved trumpet – at the time a brand new invention that extended the range and improved the intonation of the instrument. The Haydn and Hummel concertos are standard repertoire for trumpet.

Our Featured Label of the Week: Reference Recordings -- Take 20% off the entire label this weekend only. Offer good through November 3.
