Warner Classics: 825646117963
Schumann, R.: Symphonies Nos. 1-4 (Berlin Staatskapelle, Barenboim)

ClassicsToday proclaimed Daniel Barenboim's work on these Schumann symphonies "conducting of genius that immediately leaps to the top of the heap" and that the performances constitute "music-making so gripping that you can play both discs and all four symphonies straight through at a single sitting." We agree.
Chandos: Chan9861
Glinka: Capriccio brillante / Overture in D major / Souvenir d'une nuit d'ete a Madrid

Glinka's picture postcard Summer Night in Madrid is seductively scored, and brought home the romance of Spain to Russian audiences. About Kamarinskaya Tchaikovsky said, "it contains the whole of Russia, just as the acorn contains the whole oak tree." The BBC Orchestra performs, and Chandos sound is superb.
EMI: 5099902885254
Puccini, G.: Tosca (Pappano)

In this Tosca Angela Gheorghiu demonstrates why some critics believe her to be worthy of a legacy as great as that of Maria Callas. Anthony Pappano conducts the Royal Opera House orchestra, and the proceedings are captured in admirable sound quality.
