Langgaard, R.: Music of the Spheres (Dausgaard)

Any review of music by Rued Langgaard usually uses the term 'outsider' and, indeed, this music is the work of a singular mind. Repeat listenings will reveal the inner logic and brilliance of these pieces, now being enthusiastically rediscovered thanks to Thomas Dausgaard and the fine folks at Dacapo.
Naxos: 8.660215
Ravel, M: Enfant et les sortileges (L') [Opera] / Sheherazade (Boulianne, Nashville Symphony, Willis)

Ravel's L'Enfant et les sortileges concerns an ill-mannered child who must learn compassion from his pets and playthings which unexpectedly come to life to air their grievances with him. Memorable performances by the Nashville and Chicago Symphony choirs, by Julie Boulianne in the role of the child and Kevin Short as a wonderfully grumpy armchair.
