Svendsen, J.: Orchestral Works, Vol. 2 (Bergen Philharmonic, N. Jarvi)
Chandos: CHAN10711

Neeme Jarvi and the Bergen Philharmonic continue their survey of the works of Norwegian composer Johan Svendsen. This album contains the Cello Concerto in which Svendsen explores the poetic capabilities of that instrument. Appropriately enough, Norwegian cello virtuoso Truls Mork lends his talents, and the picture is complete. Recommended.

LPO: LPO-0064

These live recordings are a continuation of the London Philharmonic's Tchaikovsky series under Principal Conductor Vladmir Jurowski, carrying on his journey through the composer's six symphonies. The dark force of Fate is a theme of these two symphonies, believed by Tchaikovsky to be 'that fatal power which prevents one from attaining the goal of happiness.'

Debussy, C.: Orchestral Works, Vol. 8 (Markl) - Preludes, Books 1 and 2 (arr. P. Breiner for orchestra) Debussy, C.: Orchestral Works, Vol. 8 (Markl) - Preludes, Books 1 and 2 (arr. P. Breiner for orchestra)
Naxos: 8.572584

Debussy's Preludes is presented in orchestrations by Peter Briener and performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. These colorful preludes are considered some of Debussy's most visionary and poetic writing, evoking scenes of snow covered peaks, calm seascapes and delicate wind traceries.
