Bartok, B.: Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 (Faust, Swedish Radio Symphony, Harding)
harmonia mundi: HMC902146

Bartok's Violin Concerto No. 2 has long eclipsed his first, written 30 years earlier. However, this youthful work, written in the throes of unrequited love with its dedicatee, violinist Stefi Geyer, deserves to be rediscovered. Renowned violinist Isabelle Faust brings her unerring technique and sympathetic interpretive skills to both pieces in this much-anticipated new release.

Other Featured New Releases:

Britten, B.: Cello Suites Nos. 1-3 (J. Walton) Britten, B.: Cello Suites Nos. 1-3 (J. Walton)
Signum Classics: SIGCD336

Joining several discs from Signum celebrating 2013's Britten Centenary Year comes a new collection of the three Suites for Solo Cello, performed by star UK cellist Jamie Walton. Britten dedicated these three suites to Mstislav Rostropovich, inspired by Rostropovich's rich and romantic performances of Bach's unaccompanied suites.

Cambini, G.M.: Chamber Music (Ensemble Barocco Sans Souci) Cambini, G.M.: Chamber Music (Ensemble Barocco Sans Souci)
Tactus: TC740303

The works of Giuseppe Cambini are unfairly neglected today, despite being enthusiastically admired in their day. Here we have a collection of chamber works from this prolific composer performed by Ensemble Barocco Sans Souci.

Reich, S.: Music for 18 Musicians (Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble, Ryan) Reich, S.: Music for 18 Musicians (Grand Valley State University New Music Ensemble, Ryan)
Innova: INNOVA678

The Grand Valley State New Music Ensemble continues to build on the reputation they secured with their release of variations on Terry Riley's In C with this release of Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians. The collection of students and volunteers led by Bill Ryan spent a year rehearsing this piece and the result is a propulsive yet hypnotic performance that feels completely fresh.
