Mahler, G.: Symphony No. 1, "Titan" (London Philharmonic, Jurowski)
LPO: LPO-0070

The London Philharmonic's previously released Mahler Second Symphony was one of the most highly reviewed releases of 2011. Gramophone said, "You may think you know how Mahler's Second Symphony goes. Think again." Now Vladmir Jurowski conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Mahler's First Symphony, "Titan" and the results are easily as impressive.

Other Featured New Releases:

Lopes-Graca, F.: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 (Nebolsin, Orquestra Sinfonica do Porto - Casa da Musica, Bamert) Lopes-Graça, F.: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 (Nebolsin, Orquestra Sinfonica do Porto - Casa da Musica, Bamert)
Naxos: 8.572817

The music of Fernando Lopes-Graça is rooted in folk music, but also has influences both from much earlier composers such as Scarlatti and Seixas, as well as contemporaries such as Bartók. These influences are potent in the Piano Concerto No 1 of 1940, a highly personal, atmospheric and superbly orchestrated work imbued with bittersweet romanticism.

Hickey, S.: Cello Concerto / Clarinet Concerto (Fiterstein, Kouzov) Hickey, S.: Cello Concerto / Clarinet Concerto (Fiterstein, Kouzov)
Delos: DE3448

American composer Sean Hickey has built a reputation for composing music that strikes a balance between novelty and familiarity. His Delos debut contains two concertos; the Cello Concerto is given a gripping performance by Dmitry Kouzov, and the populist Clarinet Concerto is performed with Alexander Fiterstein in the solo role, each concerto led by Vladimir Lande and the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra.

Hersch, M.: The Vanishing Pavilions Suite Hersch, M.: The Vanishing Pavilions Suite
Innova: INNOVA859

Long established as a leading voice among composers of his generation, Michael Hersch is also a virtuoso pianist. This live recording is of his first appearance in New York as a pianist in over a decade, as he performs his Suite From the Vanishing Pavillions.
