Walton, W.: Symphony No. 1 / Violin Concerto (Little, BBC Symphony, Edward Gardner)
Chandos: CHSA5136

Tasmin Little joins Edward Gardner conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra, in a winning partnership whose outstanding recording of Britten's Violin Concerto was described by The Sunday Times as 'the finest committed to disc'. The brilliance, volatility, and power of William Walton's Symphony No. 1 is here contrasted with the warmth and lyrical beauty of the Violin Concerto.

Vaughan Williams, R.: Piano Quintet / Quintet in D Major / 6 Studies in English Folksong / Romance for Viola and Piano (London Soloists Ensemble) Vaughan Williams, R.: Piano Quintet / Quintet in D Major / 6 Studies in English Folksong / Romance for Viola and Piano (London Soloists Ensemble)
Naxos: 8.573191

Ralph Vaughan Williams wrote chamber music throughout his long creative life. The Piano Quintet in C minor uses the same rich instrumentation as Schubert's 'Trout' Quintet, while the life-enhancing Quintet in D major has an alluring wit and playfulness of its own. English folk song greatly influenced his mature creative voice as heard in the Six Studies, while the origins of the expressive Romance remain a mystery.

This is the first of two volumes of Eric Whitacre's choral music compositions performed by the Brigham Young University Singers. In addition to his choral and orchestral compositions he is known for his 'Virtual Choir' projects, bringing individual voices from around the globe together into an on-line choir.

Scotland Saor Patrol: Open Air Asylum Scotland Saor Patrol: Open Air Asylum
ARC: EUCD2499

Saor Patrol explores the sound of Scotland's tribal, turbulent past and brings it into the 21st century. The band's sound has evolved and developed while retaining their Celtic roots, and has been referred to as the "Motörhead of Folk" by Lemmy himself. "I imagine that a highland war party sweeping down a glen to battle the English might sound rather like this." – Dai Jeffries, R2 Magazine
