Mendelssohn, Felix: Symphony No. 2, "Lobgesang" (Karg, Landshamer, M. Schade, Bavarian Radio Symphony Chorus and Orchestra, Heras-Casado)
harmonia mundi : HMC902151

Mendelssohn's Lobgesang (Hymn of Praise), has elements of a symphony, a cantata, and an oratorio. The symphonic miniature in three movements acts as the overture to the sung part of the work, which expands into a sweeping vocal and choral epic. The work was commissioned by the city of Leipzig to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the invention of printing in 1840, and here gets a rousing performance by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pablo Heras Casado.
