Signum Classics: SIGCD371

Five years on from his debut recording with Signum Records, James Rhodes has firmly established himself in the classical world as pioneering figure – reaching out through concerts, recordings and television documentaries to create new classical music fans while remaining unabashedly dedicated to the core repertoire that he performs. In his fifth recital album, he returns with a sumptuous program of works of Bach, Beethoven and Chopin, the Gluck–Sgambatti 'Orfeo Melody', and Liszt's arrangement of Robert Schumann's 'Frühlingsnacht'.

Other Featured New Releases:

Malipiero, G.F.: Piano Works (1909-1921) - Poemetti lunari / Preludi autunnali / Cavalcate / 3 Danze Antiche / Risonanze (Rira Lim) Malipiero, G.F.: Piano Works (1909-1921) - Poemetti lunari / Preludi autunnali / Cavalcate / 3 Danze Antiche / Risonanze (Rira Lim)
Naxos / 19th/20th Century Italian Classics: 8.572517

The Italian composer Gian Francesco Malipiero, despite considering the piano his 'strange enemy', created a highly individual body of works for the instrument. These five contrasting early collections range from the deliberately archaic idiom of the Tre danze antiche to the quirky humor of the Cavalcate, via the resonating bell-sounds of Risonanze and the gentle autumnal melancholy of the Preludi autunnali.

Aho, K.: Ludus Solemnis / Music for and with Organ (Lehtola) Aho, K.: Ludus Solemnis / Music for and with Organ (Lehtola)
BIS: BIS-1966

A companion to Jan Lehtola's recording of Kalevi Aho's monumental organ symphony 'Alles Vergängliche', this new recording includes five smaller Aho pieces for organ solo, as well as three compositions for organ and other instruments. Mr. Lehtola has appeared with the leading Finnish orchestras, performed at international festivals and given recitals in leading European churches and concert halls.

Bono, C.: Bardo (Bono) Bono, C.: Bardo (Bono)
Our Silent Canvas: OSC-003

"Bardo" is a musical dream drama about "The Fool", a character derived from the Tarot system, as he experiences a spiritual journey through a cycle of loss, despair, inspiration, destruction, death, the afterlife and onto rebirth. Much of the piece is based off The Tibetan Book Of The Dead, the "Tower" tarot card, sound healing, and sacred geometry, which is an important aspect of the architecture of the Tower itself with it's spiraling staircases derived from the golden mean and the mathematical language of nature." - Christopher Bono
