Semiramide is Rossini on a grand scale, epic in length and making full use of a large orchestra. The libretto by Gaetano Rossi draws on a Voltaire tragedy based on the legend of Semiramis of Babylon. Usually presented in abridged form, this triple album contains the complete work, the last of Rossini's operas in the great baroque tradition.
