Sleep Songs (O'Leary, Dulra)
Heresy Records: Heresy014

Sleep Songs is an album of Suantraí — ancient Irish lullabies and songs on the theme of sleep by the critically acclaimed Irish singer and band Caitríona O'Leary & Dúlra. Suantraí along with Geantraí (songs of joy and happiness) and Goltraí (laments) comprise the three strands of traditional song in Irish mythology, and this album completes a trilogy of albums based on this repertory. An included booklet of photographs by celebrated Polish photographer Laelia Milleri has been created to resemble Pre-Raphaelite paintings and staged to evoke the lyrics in the songs on the album.

BIS: BIS-2057

This recording explores the linkage between music and melancholy from the Renaissance to the present. The concept and selections come from violinist Bjarte Eike, who performs with his band Barokksolistene and special guests keyboardist Jon Balke and violist Milos Valent. These contemplative pieces encompass grieving, introspection, and pain, but also the redemption found in emotional release.

Delius, F.: Orchestral Music (Delius in Norway) (Bergen Philharmonic, A. Davis) Delius, F.: Orchestral Music (Delius in Norway) (Bergen Philharmonic, A. Davis)
Chandos: CHSA5131

Sir Andrew Davis conducts the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in works inspired by Norway's landscape and culture. Delius regarded Norway as his spiritual home. The influence of Edvard Grieg, Delius' great friend and mentor, is obvious in these works.

Campbell, C.: Chamber Music (Things You Already Know) (Campbell) Campbell, C.: Chamber Music (Things You Already Know) (Campbell)
Innova: INNOVA860

Chris Campbell's third album has echoes of Brian Eno, Jon Hassell, Mike Oldfield, and Olivier Messiaen, but the distinctive persona of Campbell himself remains paramount. It is a mix of luscious piano loops, soaring strings, backgrounded fuzzy guitars, kicking grooves, and found sounds. The result is another adventurous, yet approachable release from Innova.
