Ondine: ODE1226-2

The themes of the 20th and 21st century choral works presented on The Latvian Radio Choir's latest release range from love to nature and the sacred. The title work of the recording, Sviridov's Sacred Love, is a unique example of aesthetic and beautiful vocal writing - sublime and inviting. Latvian Radio Choir's previous releases include their highly successful recording of Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil, chosen as Gramophone's Recording of the Month, Editor's Choice and ultimately receiving a nomination in the 2013 Gramophone Awards.

Fuchs, K.: Falling Man / Movie House / Songs of Innocence and Experience (R. Williams, London Symphony, Falletta) Fuchs, K.: Falling Man / Movie House / Songs of Innocence and Experience (R. Williams, London Symphony, Falletta)
Naxos / American Classics: 8.559753

This is the fourth recording of works by composer Kenneth Fuchs with JoAnn Falletta and the London Symphony Orchestra. The repertoire includes Falling Man (for baritone voice and orchestra); Movie House (seven poems by John Updike for baritone voice and chamber ensemble); and Songs of Innocence and of Experience (four poems by William Blake for baritone voice and chamber ensemble). Fuchs' music continues to find its visual counterpart in the work of Abstract Expressionist artist Helen Frankenthaler, whose art adorns the cover.

Gawlick, R.Y.: Missa gentis humanae (Trinity Wall Street Choir, Wachner) Gawlick, R.Y.: Missa gentis humanæ (Trinity Wall Street Choir, Wachner)
Musica Omnia: MO-0605

Ralf Yusuf Gawlick's bold and original Missa gentis humanæ blends the Latin Mass Ordinary with passages from Borges, Virgil, Brecht, Zbigniew Herbert, Dostoevsky, Plautus, Walter Scott and the Gospel According to St. John—in an 8-voice a cappella setting, recorded by select voices from the celebrated Choir of Trinity Wall Street, conducted by Julian Wachner. This work juxtaposes diverse multilingual texts, illustrating the global human element of faith, with roots in the past and its future illuminated through contemporary experience.

Nordentoft, A.: Light Imprisoned / Dance of Separation / Cathedral / Pointed Out (Erhus Sinfonietta, Hansen) Nordentoft, A.: Light Imprisoned / Dance of Separation / Cathedral / Pointed Out (Århus Sinfonietta, Hansen)
Dacapo: 8.226577

Anders Nordentoft's stirring cello concerto Light Imprisoned and the solo piece Cathedral are deeply personal works dedicated to the cellist Henrik Brendstrup. This world premiere recording presents these two important works in the company of selected Nordentoft chamber music: beautiful and harmonious, yet at the same time typified by great contrasts, suppressed pain and restless energy.
