Mozart, W.A.: Mass No. 16, "Coronation" / Ave verum corpus (St. John's College Choir, Cambridge, Nethsingha)
Chandos: CHAN0786

Here the Choir of St. John's College, Cambridge performs Mozart's 'Coronation Mass' alongside four distinguished soloists and the period-instrument ensemble St. John's Sinfonia. The opulence of the Gloria is unmistakable; the choir forcefully praises and glorifies, while the soloists more intimately bless and worship.

Also included is GRAMMY®-nominee Susan Gritton's first-ever recorded performance of Mozart's Exsultate jubilate, and a motet for the Feast of Corpus Christi, Ave verum corpus. Mozart's Church Sonatas, because of their beauty and simplicity, achieved a much wider use, beyond the church and into the concert hall.

BIS: BIS-SACD-1949

New York Polyphony has been praised for a 'rich, natural sound that's larger and more complex than the sum of its parts' (National Public Radio, USA). For this disc the four members chose the superb acoustics of a 14th-century church in Länna, Sweden to record a programme which explores the themes of grief, loss and mortality.

Despite gaining fame as a conductor, Eugene Goossens trained as a violinist and composer. His Sonata No 1 integrates a personal style with the influences of Debussy and Ravel. The dramatic extremes of the Sonata No 2 range from brooding melancholy to affirmative luminosity.
