This Week's New Features - Thursday, May 23, 2013

Tchaikovsky Orchestral Suites Arrangements by Peter Breiner Peter Breiner has received considerable international acclaim for his adaptations, and his Tchaikovsky arrangements are particularly impressive examples of his art. With deftness and subtlety he has taken motifs from Tchaikovsky's first opera Voyevoda to craft six richly scored movements, two of which have roles for solo strings. The Queen of Spades was composed in 1890 and Breiner's arrangements fully explore the music's romance and drama in their new form. more info

The Art of Fugue - Les Voix Humaines J.S. Bach's final work, The Art of Fugue, is a crowning achievement of Baroque contrapuntal style. Composed as a series of fugues on the same subject, Bach never assigned instruments to the various parts, creating a musical puzzle for generations of musicians to creatively interpret. Here, the viol duo Les Voix Humaines expands their ensemble to offer their performance of this charming, essential work. more info
