This Week's New Features - Thursday, July 17, 2014

Fauré Piano Quartet No. 2 - Kungsbacka Trio Gabriel Fauré's chamber works, long overshadowed by his popular Requiem, are regaining their rightful place. This new release from the Kungsbacka Piano Trio follows their recording of Fauré's First Piano Quartet and other chamber works, described by Gramophone as 'a delectable way into Fauré's chamber music'. more info
10 Years of Musica Italiana - Gianandrea Noseda This special '2 for 1' compilation release celebrates ten years of Gianandrea Noseda's Musica Italiana series. Recording with both the BBC Philharmonic and the Orchestra & Chorus Torino Teatro Regio, Noseda has shown a remarkable commitment to championing long-forgotten scores by well-known composers as well as the finest works by altogether neglected ones. Included inside is the complete series on Chandos. more info
Missa Solemnis | London Philharmonic Orchestra - Sir Georg Solti Recorded live at the BBC Proms in 1982, this concert was one of the highlights of Solti's final season as LPO Principal Conductor. This memorable performance was described by mezzo soprano Doris Soffel as the conductor's 'love-declaration to Beethoven'. The Missa Solemnis is one of Beethoven's great works from the height of his composing career - nothing he composed surpasses it for scale, sincerity or sheer vision. more info
Last Chance: Monteverde Choir - Vigilate!
Monteverdi Choir - Vigilate! This album brings together six English composers whose combined careers span more than a century. Byrd, Tallis, Morley, Philips, White and Tomkins. The title Vigilate! (Be watchful!) epitomises the clandestine character of recusant music-making in Elizabethan England, by undercover Catholic composers of the time. The pieces on this recording display the richly imaginative, devout and diverse responses of musical craftsmen who worked with unfailing creativity in difficult times. more info
