Dear ClassicsOnline customer,

This week we bring you three new features built around recent releases. Tianwa Yang releases a pleasing selection of Mendelssohn violin pieces, Chandos releases Joachim Raff Symphonic preludes, which prompted us to feature our extensive array of Raff recordings, and Hopkinson Smith has a new release and a reissue, featured alongside his impressive Lute catalog. Also, a friendly reminder that there's only one more week to visit our Sweeney Todd/Munich Radio Orchestra feature.

Thanks for visiting our features,
The ClassicsOnline team

This Week's New Features - Thursday, February 7, 2013

Mendelssohn Violin - Tianwa Yang Mendelssohn's trademark lightness of touch is well represented in his Violin Concerto in D minor and the Sonata, Op. 4. Both are youthful products, but written with an assurance that is startling in its maturity and poise. The substantial earlier concerto gives a foretaste of the originality and soaring inspiration which has made the Violin Concerto, Op. 64 one of the most enduring works of its age. Tianwa Yang turns in her usual splendid performance. more info

Joachim Raff The featured release is the beginning of a new series on Chandos dedicated to the engaging albeit neglected works of the German-Swiss composer Joachim Raff - one of the most widely performed and influential musicians of his day.

ClassicsOnline is pleased to be able to offer one of the most comprehensive collections of Raff recordings anywhere, including an exclusive complete box set of Raff symphonies at a very attractive price. more info

Hopkinson Smith - Bach Suites for Lute Hopkinson Smith is widely regarded as one of the premiere lutenists working today, and has a long history of recording for na´ve. Here, he issues the renowned suites BWV 1007, 1008, 1009. Hopkinson Smith is now the only musician to have recorded all of Bach's works that can be performed on a lute or similar instrument. Catch him on tour in the US in early 2013. more info
