Zdeněk Fibich was a contemporary of Smetana and Dvořák whose music was equal parts Czech nationalism and the New German School. His Symphony No. 1 is excellently proportioned and reveals the influence of Schumann. Impressions from the Countryside is an influential symphonic suite that is rarely recorded. This is the first of seven volumes of a complete Fibich series to be recorded by the Czech National Symphony performed under the direction of Marek Stilec.
