Rachmaninov's Symphony No. 3 is an exemplar of his later, more spare style, as in the Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini he had composed two years earlier. The Symphonic Dances is his last work and considered among his finest. Each blends intense rhythmic energy with rich romanticism and are the work of a forward looking composer at the height of his powers.
