Since 1939 the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has given a New Years Concert on January 1st. This beloved concert is marked by festive, upbeat selections such as waltzes and polkas, often by Austrian composers. Three encores are given, a fast polka followed by Johann Strauss II's Blue Danube Waltz which is traditionally interrupted by applause. The final encore is Johann Strauss I's Radetzky March. The program for 2010 contained the selections in the digital exclusive featured below, performed by various orchestras recorded on the Naxos and Marco Polo labels. As this year's program also featured a composition by Hans Christian Lumbye, we include the new digital exclusive Best of Lumbye. For a limited time, please take both albums for $9.98 or $4.99 each.
