In the eighteenth century, 1,300 years after the last Olympic Games in ancient times, the Olympic theme became highly fashionable. Many composers based operas of the libretto L'Olimpiade by Metastasio. This unique recording brings together sixteen of the 'Olympian' composers who set the libretto to music, following the full libretto of the opera through different pieces of each composer's setting. It includes 16 arias in their world premiere recordings. We feature this interesting piece alongside the Marco Polo series of National Anthem recordings in celebration of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
