It could be argued that interest in Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos is at an all-time high. Born in Rio de Janiero to an educated, affluent family, his upbringing combined formal European musical training and exposure to Brazilian folk idioms, leading to a creative tension that would resurface throughout his compositional career.
Featured below are a new World Premiere Recording of Villa-Lobos choral works on Haenssler, as well as the Brazilian Guitar Quartet's new arrangements of Villa-Lobos string quartets on Delos. Also featured are a box set of complete string quartets, 12 etudes and the complete 8 volume series of piano music, including Vol. 8 which was honored with a Latin Grammy® Award.
