Zdenek Fibich was one of the most important Czech composers of the later Romantic era, sharing sensibilities with fellow countryman Antonin Dvorák and the Austro-German romantics. His 2nd symphony is considered one of his best works, programmatic in style despite no explicit program.

This recording is the second of ten albums that will comprise the first complete series of Fibich orchestral works.  Marek Štilec and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra are familiar with the idiom of the composer whose works combine both influences of the Czech National School and of contemporary German composers such as Schumann, Weber and Wagner.
