633 Squadron
Most excellent album I have ever had. I was so impressed with it that, sadly my father died and he was a war veteran, we chose two of the tunes for his funeral. 622 Squadron took him in and The Royal Air Force March Past ended the ceremony. Without this album I would not have been able to play the tunes and find out which ones were the most apt for him.
Thank you so much, there was not a dry eye at the ceremony and the tunes were absolutely right for him.
Thank you more than words can say. A wonderful album played so well I can't fault it.

Essential Beethoven
This appears to be the last issue of Brautigam's conquest of the Beethoven concertos. The whole set is surely essential for a devoted Beethoven lover. I would not recommend this edition as your only version. For that consider Kempf or Brendel - or my favourite - Pollini! There are so many to choose from.
Brautigam's however, are so different - the various fortepianos to begin with. The sound is so different - the clarity of the orchestra and the fortepiano itself and the wonderful balance achieved.
I found the previous issues in this series to be quite exciting and clearly, I had to have this final issue. On first hearing, I was a little disappointed. It seemed a bit remote and calculated, even mechanical. But as so often in my experience, the first hearing turns out to be not quite what one expects. I listened again several times and the performance "grew on me". It is crisp and magisterial and in the end, brilliant and exciting. The sound is almost unique in its clarity and crispness. The recording is superb as customary from BIS.
The fill up, for all the above reasons is well worth acquiring.
Should I add that you should obtain complete sonatas from BIS and available through ClassicsOnline.
Discovering Panufnik
I downloaded this album firstly because of Szymanski, a composer I have discovered on a trip to Poland during the 90´s. I was really impressed by his style, but unfortunately it´s very hard to find recordings of his work. This Piano Concerto is really good stuff.
Lutoslawski is a well known composer, and his compositions are always at least very interesting.
But, Panufnik was completely unknown to me and this concerto turned out to be an incredible surprise - great music, from beginning to end.
This is an excellent album if you like 20th Century contemporary music, and Panufnik was also a pleasant discovery for me.
