MOZART: Flute Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 / Concerto for Flute and Harp / Andante in C major / Rondo in D major (Bezaly)

Bezaly & Mozart -- Irresistible!

This album is great value -- it has all of Mozart's orchestral music for flute, as well as the Concerto for Flute and Harp.

The people who know say that Mozart was not quite as his absolute best with his flute music. All I can say is that, to me, these pieces are wonderful. If you love (or even like) Mozart, you will love this album.

I had never heard of the orchestra, but Sharon Bezaly, of course, needs no introduction. She is one of the best flautists alive -- if not the best -- and as usual she plays the music just about perfectly. Having mostly heard her play 20th-Century repertoire, it is a revelation to hear how well she adapts to more Classical fare. The orchestra also plays well.

I love this album. Highly recommended to anyone who likes Mozart, Bezaly and/or the flute!

VIVALDI: 12 Violin Concertos, Op. 8 / The 4 Seasons (Kaufman) (1947, 1950)

Old but special

This recording, although nearly 65 years old, sounds remarkably well for its age (as I hope I do!). The playing, by the legendary Louis Kaufman may be considered dated by many listeners due to the vibrato used at that time. However I defy anyone to point to a better performance.

The No.10 "La Caccia" is my favourite but "Primavera" is also special.

I have always been drawn to Gil Shaham's recordings but this recording has become special and although certainly not the first recording of the "Seasons", it was the cause of bringing back to popularity a work which until then was unbelievably neglected.

Five stars to Naxos, then, for bringing this back at such a cheap price.

Great Recording

I have been brought up in a musically enriched family. My brother was a singer and we always had all sorts of good music in our home playing. I personally was attracted to classical and Jazz-Pop kind and played accompanying instruments such as drums and bass and also developed good sound taste as well from my child and teenage years.

Beside from early age, I started to collect good albums whenever I could afford to buy them. Now for some years as I work with Naxos of Canada I have come to discover ClassicsOnline establishment and what a delight that is.

I can listen to tracks from our local library and buy them online here. One of these purchases was Schumann and Schubert works for cello and piano, Avie AV2112. I came across it in Gramophone Magazine review, March 2007 and it was an instant delight to listen to it. I have to add that I also do and have done sound recording so I listen both for recording quality first and then performance. I have to say that this album captures both qualities. The performance is very much together while it is full of feelings and the sound is just right. The download is very easy and the MP3 high resolution guarantees and adds to good transfer and reproduction eminence.

I am delighted to own this piece. Thank you ClassicsOnline for providing this service.
