Antonio Caldara was a prolific Italian Baroque composer of operas, oratorios, cantatas, masses and motets.  Born in Venice, he became chorister of St. Mark's cathedral, then began a series of patronages that took him to Barcelona, then Rome and finally to Vienna, where he lived until his death in 1736.

The featured oratorio below, La Conversione di Clodoveo, Re di Francia, tells the story of how Clodoveo's love for his wife, the lovely and pious Clotilde, led him to convert to Christianity.  Atma Classique brings us this release under the artistic leadership of Suzie LeBlanc, with Le Nouvel Opera.

Caldara's music is less often recorded than other Baroque composers, but every bit as worthwhile.  Drawing on ClassicsOnline's deep catalog across many labels, we are proud to offer this collection of Caldara recordings.
