The Moscow Chamber Academy was born out of the Moscow Chamber Orchestra founded and directed by Rudolf Barshai and highly praised by Dmitry Shostakovich as one of the finest chamber ensembles of our time. Violinists, Misha Taitz and Elena Boni were among the most dedicated original members of the ensemble and remain core members of its successor, the Moscow Chamber Academy. Violist Pawel Krymer, one of the most recent and youngest members of the ensemble was first laureate of the International Beethoven Competition in St Pölten, Austria. Cellist, Boris Baraz, a former pupil of Rostropovich, was a member of the Orchestra of the Moscow State Conservatory under the direction of Sviatoslav Richter.
The Moscow Chamber Academy today performs a vast repertoire of classical chamber music during its celebrated world tours and has given a series of concerts in Belgium. The orchestra also has a long list of internationally acclaimed CDs to its credit. The main driving force behind the orchestra is undoubtedly Misha Taitz. With vast experience and total commitment he has directed the Moscow Chamber Academy for more than thirty years.
