Contemporary Directions Ensemble
The University of Michigan School of Music's Contemporary Directions Ensemble (CDE), the only one of the school's performing groups to concentrate solely on new music, is comprised of graduate students and upperclassmen with an intense interest in this repertoire. The CDE, under the musical direction of Jonathan Shames, works regularly with many important composers, including Stephen Hartke, Betsy Jolas, Karen Tanaka, Bright Sheng, William Bolcom, and Michael Daugherty, as well as students and faculty of the School of Music.
