Pier Giorgio Morandi was the principal oboe in the orchestra of Milan’s La Scala, before becoming assistant conductor to Riccardo Muti at this famous opera house. He later studied with Bernstein and Ozawa, before gaining the top appointment of Principal Conductor of the Rome Opera House in 1989. He has since conducted in many European opera houses, and has made regular appearances in the concert hall. For Naxos he has conducted a number of recordings, including the critically acclaimed Verdi Requiem.
