Patrick Gallois (b1956)

Patrick Gallois belongs to the generation of French musicians who lead highly successful international careers as both soloist and conductor. From the age of 17 he studied the flute with Jean-Pierre Rampal at the Paris Conservatoire. His first important appointment was to the position of principal flute with the Orchestre National de Lille. At the age of 21 he was appointed principal flute with the Orchestre National de France, under Lorin Maazel. Playing under many famous conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez, Karl Böhm, Eugen Jochum and Sergiu Celibidache, he held this post until 1984, when he decided to focus on his solo career, which has taken him throughout the world, beginning in Japan. His first recordings were made for JVC (Victor Company of Japan), followed by an exclusive contract for Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft for whom he made ten recordings. After establishing his own orchestra in Paris, the Académie de Paris, Patrick Gallois has developed a conducting career which has taken him to Japan, Scandinavia, Italy, Portugal, the United States and Bulgaria. From 2003 to 2102 he was Music Director of the Sinfonia Finlandia Jyväskylä. He has a wide repertoire both as a conductor and a flutist, with a strong predilection for contemporary music. Many new works have been dedicated to him. He has made over 40 recordings for Naxos with whom he has signed an exclusive contract. These include early symphonies by Haydn and works by Mauricio Kagel and Peteris Vasks. In 2014, he released his first recording of ballet
