A former student at the conservatory in his native city of Moscow, Michail Jurowski served for three years, from 1970, as assistant conductor to Gennady Rozhdestvensky with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 1990 he moved to Germany and has conducted there at the Dresden Semperoper, at the Komische Oper and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and at the opera houses in Leipzig and Hamburg. He has had parallel experience in the concert hall throughout unified Germany and in 1992 became general music director of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie Herford. He has had considerable experience in the recording studio and in broadcasts, with success in festival appearances in Germany and abroad.
