The Swiss conductor Emmanuel Siffert was Principal Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in Quito, Ecuador for three seasons, of the European Chamber Opera, London and the Orchestra Sinfonica Aosta, Italy. Currently he works as a freelance conductor, and gives conducting seminars and opera courses for singers.
He studied violin in Salzburg under Sandor Végh and conducting under Horst Stein, Ralf Weikert, Joma Panula and Carlo Maria Giulini. He won the conducting prize at the Schweizerischen Tonkünstlerverein in 1993 and again in 1995.
He conducted two seasons for the English National Ballet (2003/4 and 2004/5). Further opera work has included Opera Valle in Italy since 2002, as well as the Nuremberg Opera, and the Moldavian Opera in Chisinau. Orchestral work has included engagements with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and London Mozart Players among others.
