Borja Quintas (b1980)


Borja Quintas was born in Madrid in 1980. As a pianist he graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Madrid as a pupil of Joaquín Soriano and in 2003 entered the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, completing the postgraduate Performance Course with Viktor Merzhanov, and, with a red diploma of excellence, the Graduate Main Course in Opera and Symphony Conducting with Vladimir Ponkin. From his arrival in Moscow he has conducted a number of orchestras, choirs and opera, including the Moscow Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Spain, the Symphony Youth Orchestra of Madrid, the Symphony Orchestra of the City of Bishkek, the Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow F. Chopin Conservatory, the Pavel Slobodkin Chamber Orchestra, Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra, the sacred music ensemble Blagovest and many others. After his début in opera in 2009 in the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Buriatia, Borja Quintas has been invited to conduct in different theatres in Russia, and since 2010 has served as a conductor at the Moscow Russkaya Opera. In 2011 he was appointed principal conductor of the Symphony Orchestra and Quire JMJ Madrid, taking a central part in the celebrations of the visit to Madrid of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
