Mark Lubbock had a particular affinity with light music. He was educated at Eton, then in Vienna, where his life-long love of operetta was nurtured. He joined the BBC as Light Music Conductor from 1933 to 1944 and continued as conductor in broadcasting and the theatre. He conducted Night in Venice and other West End shows, and compiled an important reference book, The Complete Book of Light Opera.
