A pupil of Isaias Savio, the Brazilian guitarist Luiz Bonf was an early exponent of bossa nova, a fusion of American jazz and the Brazilian samba. His well-known Manh de Carnaval (Morning of the Carnival) is taken from his music for the film Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus).
