The English lutenist and composer John Danyel was a younger brother of the court poet Samuel Danyel. He took his degree in music at Oxford in 1603 and was a member of the royal household, serving in this capacity at the funeral of King James I in 1625. He was involved in the theatre, at first in Bristol and then at Blackfriars. His compositions include lute songs and works for lute.
