After a varied early career, Frank Loesser established himself as a song lyric writer. He eventually won a reputation as a song writer, in particular with songs such as Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition written in 1942. He went on to write for stage musicals, including a popular version of Charley's Aunt, under the title Where's Charley?, and Guys and Dolls, based on the work of Damon Runyon.
