Antonio Gala

Although born in Castile-La Mancha in 1930, the Spanish poet, playwright and novelist Antonio Gala moved very soon to Cordoba and is widely considered an Andalusian. A graduate in law, philosophy, politics and economics, he has written in a wide variety of genres. He has been awarded several prizes in the field of poetry, including the Prize Adonais (1959), and in theatre the National Theatre Prize Calderon de la Barca (1963). He started to write novels late in life, but had overwhelming success with the Crimson Manuscript, which won the Planeta Prize in 1990. He is the current president of the International Theatre Institute.
