Born in London, as a child Adolph Deutsch studied piano and composition at the Royal Academy of Music. He moved to America in 1910, and, acquiring an understanding of current American musical idioms, he turned his hand in 1918 to orchestration, finding a career for himself as an arranger and orchestrator. In 1937 he began an eight-year association with Warner Brothers, working on 53 films. From 1945 he worked free-lance, then for MGM and later for United Artists.
