Jehan Tabourot (1520 - 1595)

A churchman of some distinction, Jehan Tabourot is, nevertheless, remembered primarily for his Orchésographie, a book on dance, under the pseudonym Thoinot Arbeau, an anagram of his own name. This is important not only for its descriptions of dance steps, but also for their correlation with music and with the tunes that he includes in his work, music for which he sometimes receives credit
