User's Review: Stimulating Symphonic Sonata Liszt's famous piano sonata is given only a standard performance by Kozlova, as she lacks the passion this great work offers and demands, however, the extremely rare symphonic transcription of this great work by Weiner is indeed a joy to hear... User's Review: Marvelous Recording! This disc is marvelous! I have always enjoyed Rameau’s music, but the performance captured here is top notch. The harpsichord is bright and spritely, and Olivier Fortin plays it with obvious joie de vivre – particularly in the Troisieme Concert pieces. Anne Thivierge’s flute makes a wonderful companion to this jaunty keyboard, as does Sophie Gent’s Violin... Read more |

User's Review: "Gold" in all ways! Okay, call me uneducated but I had never before heard the Korngold Violin Concerto until it featured on BBC Radio 3’s CD Review ‘Building a Library’ feature first broadcast on May 5th 2012. I was hooked immediately. But lets get the negative comments out the way first – these concertos are not your Beethoven, Brahms, Bruch, Elgar – perhaps more to do with Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn, romantic they certainly are... User's Review: A worthy premiere of one of Russia's most neglected composers Vladimir Rebikov, often called 'the inventor of the whole-tone scale', is now almost completely forgotten, save his Silhouettes (a set of interesting children's pieces), and his Valse op.21, a popular encore piece. Due to most of his pieces being miniatures, with definite musical phrases and simple forms (far from Satie), not many people paid attention to him. To the disengaged, Rebikov seems like one of the many salon composers, with nothing of note... Read more |

User's Review: Intriguing new piano collection What a terrific - and intriguing - listening experience the new edition to Chandos' piano music of York Bowen (Chandos 10593, 'Works for Piano, vol.4' York Bowen, composer, Joop Celis, piano) is! York Bowen 1884-1961 was a British composer-pianist who, among numerous other accomplishments, had premiered the Walton "Sinfonia Concertante" for piano and orchestra.. This music is very tonal, in fact, very "British" sounding with hints of Elgar but, more accurately, more like Bax or Arnold as the possible inspirational genetics... Read more

Published Review (By Penguin Guide): ...Naxos have had the even better idea of coupling the 1955 Goldberg set with a stimulating broadcast performance of the G major Partita—a favourite works of Gold’s—dating from the year before. Both transfers are first class. It is also available on Sony in surround sound. |

User's Review: My reference for the Ressurection I own a few records of the 2nd symphony of Mahler. One is conducted by Pierre Boulez and the singers are Christine Schafer and Michele de Young. I think that I have 3 records before this one... Read more |
